What cable to choose for laying electrical wiring
The choice of cable for wiring – is a fundamental factor in the repair or replacement of wiring space. The main task of the cable is sewage and power distribution to consumers. For each node and wiring location there is a separate brand and type of cable.
For wiring in residential premises, as the main cable, a hard, stranded cable of the VVG brand is selected. It is able to withstand the necessary loads and has sufficient insulation properties.
This brand is used for open and closed wiring on special cable racks and blocks. Not recommended for laying in the ground (trenches). In wooden rooms, such as a cottage, a bath, a shed, and in other fire-hazardous places, the cable must be with additional insulation and protection (armor). For example, brands БПВЛ or КВВГ. In these conditions, you can use conventional cables, but they must be protected by additional corrugated pipe or cable channel.
The choice of cable for wiring directly to the consumer, is made on the basis of its power, and in what place it is operated. For laying from the main cable to the outlets through the junction box, soft cables are used, such as RK, RPSH or PVS with a cross-section of 2.5 mm, or VVG of a similar section. For lighting, soft wires are used in PVC insulation, with a cross section of 1.5 mm, such brands as Ball Screws, Ball Screws-2, ШВЛ or PVS. These types of cables are also suitable for such signal fittings as a doorbell, lights in cabinets or other low power consumers.
When choosing a cable for wiring, it is worth considering the purpose of installation, fixed or not fixed. Fixed installation means that the cable will not be subjected to frequent mechanical stress (bends, twists, misalignments), for such installation rigid cables are used such brands as AVVG-P, AVVG, KVVG and the like. As for the non-fixed installation, in this case, soft and flexible cables and wires are used, such brands as PVA, ball screw, ШВЛ and others. Soft cables are used for consumers such as carrying or extension cords.
