How to lay ceramic tile do it yourself

Laying ceramic tiles is a rather technically complex and time-consuming process. To start laying tiles, you need to correctly select the working tool and the tile itself. Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare the surface. Laying tiles on cement boards is most common, but there are also options for laying on vinyl, old ceramic coating and even plywood. Regardless of where the tile will be laid, the surface must be cleaned of all dirty, dust, oils and other types of pollution.

If there are irregularities on the surface where the tile will be, they must be removed using leveling mortars. It is also possible to level the surfaces with drywall. This method is necessary if the walls have large irregularities or filled up. Bath is required moisture resistant drywall. To avoid cutting the tile against the walls, you need to spend some time to estimate the location of each tile.
It is necessary to approach the choice of glue with full responsibility. The type of glue primarily depends on the type of ceramic coating and on the porosity of the surface material. Glue can be used 5 minutes after preparation, it retains its property for 7-9 hours. The more porous the surface, the more glue will be needed for laying. In hot weather, the glue dries much faster than at normal room temperature, so you need to apply glue to the surface a little more. If the glue is not enough on the surface, or it is unevenly applied, the tile and seams may crack.

Immediately before starting work, you need to determine what tile laying technique you will use. Laying can be either with seams or without seams. When laying without seams, there is a big time saving and significantly speeds up the work. But to perform such work is quite difficult. The seamless surface is a monolithic construction and, with a small deformation, the tile will be destroyed.

It is best to use tile laying with seams. The standard weld size is 1.5-3 mm, and for tiles with a large size it is 5 mm. It is necessary to consider the harsh conditions of the tile. The higher the load on it, the greater must be the width of the seam. The process of laying ceramic tiles occurs when pressing the tile on the adhesive layer. Laying ceramic tiles begin from the bottom, from the second row.

This must be done to hide the uneven edges of the tiles. The process of laying tiles is carried out gradually. During the work, the tile is pressed, leveled and tapped with a rubber hammer; this is necessary so that even contact between the adhesive and the tile occurs. A day after the laying of the ceramic tile is completed, it is necessary to start filling the seams, use putty of the color suitable for the tile.

Filling of seams is carried out by means of the rubber pallet. In the filled joints there should be no dust and dirt, it is necessary that the solution was in each gap. After the solution dries, the entire work surface must be thoroughly washed with water using a sponge. Upon completion of tile laying, the entire surface must be cleaned and washed with detergents.
